Minister Wang Wentao Meets with Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva

On March 26, Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao met with Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva in Beijing for an in-depth exchange of views on the economic prospects of China and the world, support for free trade, and greater multilateral cooperation.

Wang Wentao said that China's economic growth stood at 5.2% last year, ranking it among the fastest-growing major economies in the world. China serves as an important contributor to global economic growth. In recent years, some countries have overstretched the concept of national security, attempted to build "a small yard with high fences" and highlighted geopolitics. These practices have led to economic fragmentation and increased business risks. China will stay committed to high-level opening-up, firmly support the multilateral trading system, and look forward to maintaining sound cooperation with the IMF to enhance mutual trust and contribute to the recovery and development of the world economy.

Kristalina Georgieva said that China's economy has grown beyond expectations and maintained a sound momentum of development in the digital and green fields. The IMF appreciates China's forceful measures to promote economic growth. The IMF supports free and open trade, opposes politicizing economic issues, and stands ready to strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation with China in pursuit of an open and inclusive world economy.
