Minister Wang Wentao chaired a round-table for foreign-invested enterprises from the pharmaceutical industry

On March 23, Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao chaired a round-table for foreign-invested enterprises from the pharmaceutical industry. Global executives from Bristol Myers Squibb, GSK, Danaher, Pfizer, AbbVie, Sanofi, Takeda Pharmaceutical, Gilead Sciences, Merck and other multinational companies, and representatives of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America attended the meeting. Participants exchanged views on such topics as promoting innovation cooperation of the global pharmaceutical industry and the development of foreign pharmaceutical enterprises in China.

Wang Wentao said that China has vigorously developed new quality productive forces and steadily advanced high-quality development, injecting strong impetus into the global economic recovery. We give equal support to both domestic and foreign-invested enterprises in scientific and technological innovation, and welcome foreign pharmaceutical enterprises to continue to provide Chinese consumers with high-quality new products and services. China will stay committed to high-level opening-up and strengthening intellectual property protection, so as to create a favorable environment for foreign-invested enterprises to develop in China.

Wang Wentao stressed that pharmaceutical innovation cannot be achieved without global cooperation. The business community widely opposes overstretching the concept of national security and decoupling and severing supply chains with China. China stands ready to work with other countries to create a fair, stable and predictable environment and encourage pharmaceuticals to strengthen international investment cooperation.

Executives attending the meeting voiced their full confidence in China's economic prospects and sound business environment, which has further strengthened their determination to invest in China. The policies recently issued by the country to attract foreign investment have effectively responded to the concerns and suggestions of pharmaceutical companies, and will give a strong boost to the innovation and development of the whole industry.
