The 20th meeting of the China-Hungary Economic Joint Committee was held in Beijing

On April 24, Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao and Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, co-chaired the 20th meeting of the China-Hungary Economic Joint Committee in Beijing. The two sides had an in-depth and friendly exchange of views on ways to accelerate the implementation of the important consensus between the two heads of state and promote the high-quality development of bilateral economic and trade relations. The meeting was joined by Ling Ji, Vice Minister of Commerce and Deputy China International Trade Representative.


Wang Wentao said that under the strategic leadership of President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Orban, the comprehensive and strategic partnership between China and Hungary has made considerable progress and delivered fruitful outcomes in vibrant trade and economic cooperation. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between the two countries. China is willing to work with Hungary to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, strengthen the alignment of development strategies, jointly safeguard free trade, oppose protectionism, continue to promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, tap the potential of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, and strengthen cooperation in new energy, infrastructure, transportation and logistics, digital economy and finance. Such efforts will generate more impetus to elevate the comprehensive strategic partnership.

Péter Szijjártó said China is Hungary's largest trading partner outside the European Union and the third largest source of investment in the world. Hungary is committed to its relations with China and values the opportunities in cooperation with China. Hungary opposes decoupling and de-risking. Hungary attaches great importance to the joint committee mechanism, and hopes to export more high-quality agricultural and food products to China. Chinese investments are welcome in Hungary. Hungary will provide an open and fair business environment for Chinese enterprises and looks forward to strengthening practical cooperation with China in new energy, infrastructure and finance. Hungary thanked China for the invitation and agreed to be the country of honor at the 24th China International Fair for Investment and Trade.
