On November 26, Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao held a video meeting with Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security of the European Commission Maroš Šefčovič. They had an in-depth exchange of views on economic and trade issues, including the Nexperia issue.
Wang Wentao stated that concerning the Nexperia issue, the origin of and responsibility for the current disruption in the global semiconductor industrial and supply chains lie with the Dutch side. The Chinese government has always acted responsibly in taking prompt and concrete measures and to strive to maintain and restore the stability of the global semiconductor industrial and supply chains. While the recent suspension of the administrative order by the Dutch side is a small step toward properly resolving the issue, the improper administrative and judicial interventions against the company have not yet been revoked. The global semiconductor industrial and supply chains have not returned to normal and still face significant uncertainty. It is hoped that the EU would play a positive role in urging the Dutch government to propose a constructive solution as soon as possible and create favorable conditions for the company to conduct internal consultations.
Maroš Šefčovič thanked MOFCOM for the huge efforts it made in pushing the resolution of the Nexperia issue, which helped avert a crisis in the global semiconductor industrial and supply chains. As the issue is not yet fully resolved, the EU is willing to work with China to de-escalate the situation further.
The two sides agreed that the company itself should play the main role in resolving the Nexperia issue. They will jointly urge Nexperia (Netherlands) and Nexperia (China) to engage in constructive communication as soon as possible, find a long-term solution, and restore the smooth operation and stability of the global semiconductor industrial and supply chains at an earlier date.
The two sides also exchanged views on export control and other China-EU issues.
