On October 8, Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao held a phone call with his US counterpart Gina Raimondo. They had candid, in-depth and pragmatic communication on economic and trade issues of respective concerns, and discussed ways to implement the important consensus reached at the San Francisco meeting. This phone call is part of a communication mechanism between the commerce departments of the two countries.
Wang Wentao said the historic meeting between the two Presidents in San Francisco last November charted the course for the development of China-US economic and trade relations. Following the meeting, MOFCOM and USDOC have maintained close contact at the ministerial, vice-ministerial and director-general levels and made progress in expanding cooperation, managing differences and addressing specific concerns of enterprises. China-US economic and trade relations should be the stabilizing forces for our bilateral relations. On the basis of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation, China is ready to work with the United States to implement the consensus of the Presidents and bring China-US economic and trade relations back on the right track.
Wang Wentao expressed serious concerns about the US semiconductor policy towards China and restrictions on connected cars from China. Wang Wentao stressed the utmost importance of clarifying national security boundaries in the economic and trade field, as it will help to maintain the security and stability of the global industrial chains and supply chains, and create a good policy environment for industrial cooperation between the two countries. China urges the US to address the specific concerns of Chinese companies, lift sanctions on Chinese companies as soon as possible ,and improve the business environment for Chinese companies in the US.
