On December 9, Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao met with the Secretary-General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), Mathais Cormann, in Beijing. They had an in-depth exchange of views on world economy and ways to deepen bilateral cooperation.
Wang said that the third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee laid out systematic plans for deepening reform comprehensively to advance Chinese modernization. China is taking swift actions to build a new development paradigm and comprehensively promoting Chinese modernization with high-quality development. This will bring more new opportunities to the world. China is opening up wider on its own initiative, continuously enhancing the level of openness and reducing restrictions, and its door will only open wider still.
Wang Wentao said that China is willing to share policy experience and carry out personnel exchanges with the OECD in such areas as trade and investment, the digital economy and green development. He expressed the hope that the OECD would continue to play to its strengths as an incubator of high standards and international rules, and stand with China to build an open world economy and oppose protectionism.
Cormann highly appreciated China’s achievements in economic development and opening-up, and acknowledged that China’s strong economic growth has played an important role in supporting the global economy. He said the OECD is willing to engage with China more closely in such fields as climate change and trade in services, oppose protectionism and jointly tackle global challenges.
