Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao Met with Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen

On May 19, Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao Met with Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen. The two sides had in-depth exchanges of views on China-Denmark and China-EU economic and trade relations and upholding the multilateral trading system. Representatives from the Danish business community, including Confederation of Danish industry, Novo Nordisk and Carlsberg, attended the meeting.

Wang Wentao stated that President Xi Jinping has replied to a letter from the Danish Chamber of Commerce (DCCC), pointing out the direction for deepening China-Denmark economic and trade cooperation. Over the past 75 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China-Denmark relations have continued to flourish and develop steadily, with growing bilateral trade and fruitful investment cooperation outcomes in areas such as green development, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and food and machinery. China remains committed to further opening up, actively expands domestic demand, and creates a stable, transparent, and predictable business environment. Currently, the international situation is turbulent and changing. Facing severe challenges posed by unilateralism, protectionism, and anti-globalization, China stands ready to work with Denmark and the EU to uphold the original aspiration of establishing diplomatic ties, strengthen policy communication, deepen pragmatic cooperation and jointly safeguard the multilateral trading system with the WTO at its core so as to inject more stability and positive energy into the world.

Rasmussen noted that Denmark and China enjoy a long history of friendly exchanges. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 75 years ago, bilateral economic and trade cooperation has deepened continuously. Denmark firmly supports free trade and is dedicated to upholding the WTO rules. It hopes to further strengthen dialogue and exchanges with China and expand pragmatic cooperation in trade, investment, green energy, and other fields. He hopes that the EU and China can address the electric vehicle case properly.

Representatives from the Danish business community noted that President Xi Jinping’s reply letter to the DCCC greatly inspires the Danish business community. They are more optimistic about the prospects of China’s economic development. They welcome new measures introduced by the Chinese government to expand opening up. They are willing to further increase investment and R&D efforts in China, providing more high-quality products and services to the Chinese market.
